Artist Statement of Eve Edmonds
I guess in many ways I am not a very traditional person. I didn’t go to college after high school. I didn’t marry my high school sweet heart. I didn’t start building a career either. In fact, what I did do was travel the world, explore other cultures and of course party as I went. I did this for more then 10 years when I finally realized that I had accumulated a great deal of life experience but I had little to show for it. But, this didn’t even seem to bother me, until I became pregnant with my daughter Tasia. I found myself facing a life of single motherhood and poverty with very few options.
After becoming a mother I decided that I wanted to be a good role model for my daughter and enrolled in college as a Fine Art major. I spent the next 8 years in school. I discovered that I enjoyed it and took classes ranging from life drawing to organic chemistry. I had no idea that school could be so enjoyable. But it was also difficult. Raising a child while in school just takes everything you have. There is no room for a social life or dating, especially if I wanted to have time to paint and painting is my passion.
Time marches on and now 18 years down the road, just this spring I watched my daughter graduate from high school. Wow, how amazing is that? So, where am I now? I am right where I am supposed to be. I am sharing my work with you. This is my first major show and once again it is very unconventional. It is an accumulated effort of over 15 years of work. It is a trail of breadcrumbs leading me to my future. It is my time to open my world and my heart to a new life. It is my time to shine.
I do not regret this life path although I feel it
has not been an easy one. Honestly, what
life path is easy? Life is for me is
about that endless journey of self-discovery and somehow managing to hold on to
my life’s dream. I want to invite you to
be a part of my dream. Please join me.
